If you hate yourself, work at Macy’s.
Absolutely no pros to working at Macy’s.
Management on all levels doesn’t care about the company or their team, Macy’s purposely spreads their workers as thin as possible to avoid hiring any extra help, the schedule is never consistent, their scheduling system will intentionally schedule you 15-30 minutes shy of working long enough to get a meal break; and management will berate you if you try to take your two 15 minute breaks together, no colleague support whatsoever; even if a customer is disrespectful or even violent Macys will give them whatever they ask and belittle the worker after, no time off allowed in Nov-Jan unless your upper management; then you can do whatever you want, they don’t care about employee growth and will actively avoid talking about things you’re improving on to dwell on things you aren’t doing well, they’re only focused on sales and getting people to sign up for their credit card, Macys will down right try to get you to lie and scam customers into their credit card, no one ever knows what’s really going on at any level in the store; whether it be the sales floor or the executive office, criminally low pay, your hours per week will be just shy of qualifying for benefits, and management will go out of their way to blame sales associates for low sales rather than look at themselves, and they’re always asking simple store colleagues for ideas on how to boost sales and drive customer foot traffic instead of coming up with ideas and running the store themselves.

Stop spreading workers too thin, Macys is a department store for a reason. Hire help for every area, counter, floor, and department. Actually reward your workers and incentivize them with more than cheap snacks and pizza parties, and don’t overlook the good employees do just to dwell on where they’re falling behind. Make sure to hire management and executives that not only actually care about their job but like working with the general public/at least running a team. Stop rewarding rude customers with free things and profuse apologies, it just makes them treat your employees worse. Lastly, stop forcing employees to push that credit card so often. Both staff and customers hate it, it makes employees quit and customers not come back because they’re sick of being harassed with the same question.

Highly dependent on your team
Female dominated workplace, casual and friendly culture. Genuinely encourages curiosity and ambition. Lots of opportunities for learning, growth, and career development. Strong emphasis on interpersonal relationships and intra-team/div connections.
Your experience will be influenced HEAVILY by your team - colleagues from different departments and teams have vastly different experiences solely based on the quality of their people leader and the nuances of whatever department they are in. Not easy to bring issues to HR. Visible favoritism - you will be at a significant disadvantage if you aren’t extroverted and well versed in corporate networking. Not the most comfortable/inviting environment for certain minorities - can feel alienating if you don’t fit the profile shared by most employees. The friendly culture can cross lines at certain points - managers sharing inappropriate personal details of their lives, asking invasive questions, making and conveying assumptions about you. But again difficult to take to HR because the culture is SO friendly.
